CFA 21/MAY/09-a
No objection to Site #1 as the permanent location for the Bakers Creek Air Crash Memorial Marker as shown in material received and dated 7 May 2009. Site #1 is adjacent to the northwest side of the Selfridge Gate to Arlington National Cemetery at McNair Road and Farragut Drive. It is the preferred option of the Bakers Creek Memorial Association and the Fort Myer Garrison due to it association with the Selfridge Gate, which was named in honor of Lieutenant Thomas Selfridge who in 1908 was the first member of the U.S. military to die in a powered aircraft. The design of the Bakers Creek Air Crash Memorial Marker was approved in May 2006 (see case number: CFA 18/MAY/06-3).
