Consent Calendar: CFA Meeting — 20 November 2008

No objection to the installation of ten table-top interpretive signs and one three-panel kiosk display in the main section of Walter Reed Army Medical Center to interpret the Center's Centennial, as shown in materials received and dated 8 October 2008. No objection to the final design of a new odor control facility with public restrooms and site improvements, as shown in materials received and dated 6 November 2008. Refer to the Historic Preservation Review Board.

No objection to the final design of a new replacement building for the Benning Neighborhood Library, as shown in materials received and dated 6 November 2008. The design conforms to previously-approved concept submission (see case number: CFA 21/FEB/08-6).

No objection to the installation of a temporary public exhibit featuring a 16-inch telescope in a demountable fiberglass astronomical observatory, 22 feet in diameter and 18 feet tall, on the southeast terrace of the National Air and Space Museum for a two-year period, as shown in materials received and dated 5 November 2008. No objection to the concept design for renovations, modifications, replacement windows, and landscape improvement to the Douglass Junior High School building for the KIPP DC Charter School, as shown in materials received and dated 29 October 2008. Refer to the Historic Preservation Review Board.

The Commission regrets that the trailer was installed prior to review and without a permit. No objection to issuance of permit for existing temporary trailer to be dismantled no later than August 2009. Recommend picket railing retro-fitted into historic cast iron railing be removed and replaced with rails and hardware cloth to match original. Request that all other additional work be submitted for review prior to starting construction. Refer to the Historic Preservation Review Board.

No objection to the issuance of a permit for the temporary installation of a loudspeaker system on roofs of five buildings on Pennsylvania Avenue, as shown in materials received and dated 7 November 2008, provided the system is removed two weeks after the January 2009 Presidential Inauguration. Refer to the Historic Preservation Review Board.

No objection to the issuance of a revised permit for the emergency installation of a new replacement roof on the Gales School Building, as shown in materials received and dated 31 October 2008 and 10 November 2008, provided that the balance of the building renovation project will be submitted for review at a later date. Refer to the Historic Preservation Review Board.

No objection to the installation of a disabled access lift for the Memorial in the Oise-Aisne American Cemetery, Seringes-et-Nesles, France. The new hydraulic access lift will be installed on the back side of the semi-circular peristyle behind the Chapel, as shown in materials received and dated 17 November 2008.
