Submitted materials dated 18 October 2012 and an inspection on 2 May 2012 of a mock-up installation on site in association with review of concept application under case OG 12-104 indicate that proposed mechanical equipment will be located where it will not be visible from public thoroughfare. Refer to the Historic Preservation Review Board. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the design made during DCRA Technical Review that would make the roof top mechanical equipment visible must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

The Commission regrets that the oversized Boffi sign on storefront and the listing of cities were installed not in compliance with previous recommendations. Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for proposed second sign of back-lit letters reading 'Maxalto.' No objection to replacing the back-lit sign reading 'Boffi' above the entrance doors with back-lit letters no taller than 12 inches high and pin-mounted through mortar joints. The oversized sign applied to glazing on show window must be reduced to letters no taller than 12 inches high and the listing of cities on the bay window must be removed no later than 31 January 2013 to conform to previous recommendations. No objection to issuance of permit for proposed new wood doors, black metal panels, and black fabric awning with 6 inches-tall letters reading 'J.Crew' on M Street and metal doors, enlarged glass sidelights, transom with maximum 11 inches-tall lettering, and black metal panels at West elevation per drawings dated 15 November 2012. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to concept design for partial demolition of stone and brick wall along south and east property lines of the Old Post Office site and reconstruction to match existing. Salvaged brick and stone must be used on reconstruction. Accurate documentation of existing wall must be prepared prior to filing permit application.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed brick third floor addition, brick and copper rear addition, and new copper penthouse, aluminum windows and doors with simulated divided lights, copper front entrance canopy, fabric awnings with black aluminum frames, granite and brick garden walls with teak gates, paved and illuminated parking area as shown in supplemental drawings dated 13 November 2012 which indicate shielded lights below copper projecting bays. Mechanical equipment is not to be visible from streets. Erect material sample panels to be approved by Commission prior to ordering of materials. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed exterior work associated with waterproofing work at the Latham Hotel including the removal and reconstruction of the asphalt driveway, the brick stairs and wall, the concrete curbs, the lower section of EIFS on the entrance surround and the three lower courses of brick at the base of the walls and piers PROVIDED finish surfaces match existing detailing and that existing brick on stairs and walls is salvaged and re-used, with replacement of damaged bricks to match existing only where needed. New mortar must match composition, color and profile of existing. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.
