The Commission regrets that several window openings were completed prior to review or permit and notes that the District Government issued a stop work order on 22 August 2007 and that a skylight and areaway alterations were thereafter completed without review or permit. The Commission remains concerned that the front facade of this significant building has been compromised during this period of unpermitted construction, as evidenced by observable continued settling. No objection to issuance of permit for proposed wood window and door, skylight, mechanical and areaway alterations at rear, and new hand-crimped copper roofs at historic ell and raised roofs at 1980s rear additions, as shown in supplemental drawings received and dated 15 January 2009. No objection to issuance of permit for proposed shed woven fabric awning with lettering on slope no taller than 8-inches high reading: 'Fresh' as shown in supplemental drawings dated 29 December 2008 PROVIDED attachments are made into mortar joints only. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed replacement of shutters with wood paneled shutters using existing hardware. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed woven fabric awning with lettering on 6-inch valance reading: 'Tretorn' to replace awning installed non-compliant to approved design. No objection to permit for alterations to porch enclosure and balconies with 5/4" wood balusters as shown in supplemental drawings received 22 December 2008. The Commission regrets that removal of brick on front facade was initiated prior to review or permit. No objection to issuance of permit for proposed replacement of face brick which must match dimensions of historic brick. Installation must combine re-usable original brick with new. Mortar joint composition and dimensions must match original coursing for the tooth-in of the bricks. Recommend AGAINST the installation of shutters on the front facade.

The Commission regrets that the fence was installed prior to review or permit. No objection to issuance of permit for existing vertical board wood fence without horizontal trim boards as shown in supplemental documentation dated 22 January 2009. Fence must be stained or painted. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to concept design development details for proposed canted glass wall and zinc roof alterations at entrance link as shown in supplemental drawings received and dated 30 December 2008. Recommend further study of color of zinc, clear glass, alternate fret pattern, minimal horizontal mullions, beltcourse extension, and door at roof. Provide color options in concrete specifications. File new submission of working drawings, including details and dimensions, with permit application for review by the Commission when ready.

The Commission regrets that windows were replaced and alterations completed prior to review or permit. No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations for single-hung 1/1 wood windows as shown in drawings dated 19 December 2008. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed revisions to approved permit including aluminum trellis, back-lit signs reading 'TD Bank', paving materials, concrete curb and additional landscaping. Recommend AGAINST concept design for partial demolition of brick garden wall and for new brick piers, wood fence and alcove for trash containers as proposed. No objection to concept of alterations to brick panel next to garage for new entrance to rear yard. File new submission of working drawings, including details and dimensions, for a revised design with permit application for review by the Commission when ready.

Recommend AGAINST concept design for addition and alterations to rear as proposed. Recommend recess at demarcation of existing rear wall and new addition, which should have a lower roof line. File new submission of working drawings, including details and dimensions, with permit application for revised design for review by the Commission when ready.
