No objection to general concept for massing and footprint of proposed side and rear addition as shown in supplemental drawings dated 25 June 2008. Recommend further study of detailing of facade treatment including Mansard roof projection, panels below window sills, and blanked window. Request reduction of the amount of demolition of the original exterior wall at the northwest corner of the wing which, as proposed, is not appropriate. File new submission of design development drawings, including additional detailing and site work, with concept application for review by the Commission when ready.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed steel window and door replacements, awning, and relocated sign as shown in supplemental drawings dated 14 July 2008. Note: Because the application is pending final zoning review, any subsequent modifications to the approved design must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval.

The Commission regrets that replacement windows were installed prior to review and without a permit. Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for existing and proposed replacement windows which are not appropriate to this historic building and adversely impact its character. Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for proposed alterations to porch and facade at entrance. Original structural glass must be repaired or replicated. A separate permit application for replacement windows using steel double-hung or casement windows with detailing to match original must be submitted prior to 14 August 2008 deadline for review at the Old Georgetown Board meeting of 4 September, to bring windows into compliance. Recommend further study to replace existing porch canopy.

Recommend AGAINST concept design for proposed two-story rear addition and in-fill of dog leg as shown in supplemental drawings dated 20 June 2008. Size and scale of proposed addition overwhelms the small contributing historic building.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations to rear facade as shown on supplemental drawings dated 25 June 2008 which indicate Andersen vinyl-clad wood windows with half screens, and wood French doors, all with 3/4-inch simulated-divided-lites; and double over lapped Hardie-plank beaded lap siding PROVIDED the smooth finish is used. The alterations to the existing deck were removed from this permit application. Recommend AGAINST concept design for alterations and addition to carriage house off rear alley which, as proposed, would adversely alter the contributing character of the existing structure. Recommend existing carriage house be repaired.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed three-story rear addition as shown in supplemental drawings dated July 2008 which indicate metal mesh railing at balconies and terraces, and metal garage doors to match Alucobond panels on walls. Signs on street facade, which were installed without review or permit, will be removed. Recommend AGAINST concept design for two-story rear addition as proposed. In-fill addition of side yard will adversely impact the historic structure and the neighborhood and was not approved. The window wells in the front of the house are not appropriate in this narrow sidewalk and were not approved. If a rear addition is to be pursued, recommend it be frame construction no wider than the existing rear ell and no taller than its eave.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed 6-foot high wood fence and gates with lights as shown in supplemental drawings dated 9 July 2008.
