The Commission regrets that replacement vinyl windows were installed on the rear elevation prior to review or permit. Submission materials are not sufficient for review. Recommend against issuance of permit as replacement windows with internal grilles on rear elevation are not appropriate to this contributing building or compatible with the character of the historic district. Recommend retaining and repairing existing historic wood windows on front facade with the use of storm windows if needed. File new submission at DCRA with drawings for wood double-hung windows for rear elevation similar to those existing at front, including details, dimensions and cut sheets, with permit application no later than the 17 October 2013 filing deadline for review by the Commission.
