Letter
Dear Mr. Jameson:
In its public meeting of 21 May conducted by videoconference, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed a concept submission for a new single-family house on an unimproved lot at 5906 17th Street, NW (case number SL 20-134). Expressing appreciation for the design of the project, the Commission approved the concept and delegated the final review of the design to the staff.
The Commission members commented that the proposed massing of the house— four discrete, low volumes stepping down the slope toward the adjacent national park—is appropriate within the neighborhood of one- and two-story houses and is sensitive to the wooded parkland context. They characterized the site design as sophisticated, while recommending care in the grading of the slopes to the front entrance and garage to manage the water flow toward the house.
In accordance with the Commission’s delegation action, please coordinate with the staff for the submission of the final design, which should include a full presentation of the proposed exterior materials.
Sincerely,
/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
