Letter
Dear Mr. Anderson:
In its public meeting of 15 September conducted by videoconference, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed a revised concept design for alterations to the building and site of the Lorraine H. Whitlock Elementary School (formerly known as the Maude E. Aiton Elementary School), located at 533 48th Place, NE. The Commission approved the submission with the following comments and delegated the review of the final design to the staff.
The Commission members expressed strong support for the refinements to the design, commenting that the simplified facade articulation and material palette has resulted in a clearer expression of the building’s architectural concept; these refinements have also improved the relationship between the existing building and the new addition. For the development of the final design, they suggested further study of the lower part of the new addition along the sidewalk on the east, which may present the opportunity to add texture and detail to the pedestrian realm.
Please coordinate the development of the final design submission with the staff which, as always, is available to assist you.
Sincerely,
/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
