Recommendation
No objection to issuance of permit for various exterior alterations at Georgetown University's Gervase Hall, per supplemental materials received 5 October 2026, which per the Old Georgetown Board's direction confirms the stone thresholds at the first floors on the east elevation would be retained; confirms no HVAC equipment would be installed; confirms that all decking, treads, and risers would be a rot-resistant wood and not a composite; confirms a double lock standing-seam metal roof would be installed on the dormers; studies the salvage and reuse of the remaining brownstone remnants for placement in either the retaining wall or walk; and uses similar structural metal to patch the fire-escape stair holes, but the pattern can be simplified and does not need to be identical, PROVIDED the applicant completes mortar analyses prior to repointing to confirm the appropriate type is used and completes an on-site mockup with the Old Georgetown Board prior to construction to select the brick type and color, mortar color, zinc roofing panels, and retaining wall and stair stone and caps. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the approved design, including those made during DOB technical review, must be resubmitted to the Commission for approval prior to the issuance of a permit.
