Letter
Dear Mr. Hunter:
In its public meeting of 15 April conducted by videoconference, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed a concept submission for Swampoodle Park II, a new neighborhood park proposed for the vacant lot at 3rd and L Streets, NE. The Commission approved the concept design and delegated the review of the final design submission to the staff.
The Commission members commended the proposal’s skillful design treatment of a complex program that will provide multiple opportunities for a range of recreational activities. They emphasized the value of preserving the existing mural along the north side of the site as a focal element for the park. They agreed that the new park will effectively complement the design of the existing Swampoodle Park I, located directly across L Street from this site.
Please coordinate the delegated review of the final design with the staff which, as always, is available to assist you.
Sincerely,
/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
