Dear Mr. Robinson:

In its public meeting of 15 October conducted by videoconference, the Commission of Fine Arts approved, based on its prior review of the submission materials, the proposed final design for the landscape and accessibility improvements in the courtyard of the Freer Gallery of Art. The Commission members commended the design of the ramp for its elegant restraint, and they expressed appreciation for the additional research on Charles Platt’s garden designs, which has resulted in a proposal that honors the setting of his original Renaissance Revival design for the building and his innovative blending of the formal and natural garden typologies in the courtyard.

As always, the staff is available to assist you with future submissions. Sincerely,

/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
