Letter

Dear Ms. Rutter:

In its meeting of 16 June, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed a revised final design for a new pedestrian and bicyclist bridge proposed as part of the southern expansion of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Reiterating its strong support for the development of this connection between the Kennedy Center and the Potomac River waterfront, the Commission approved the submission with the following comments.

The Commission members expressed appreciation for the responsiveness to their previous comments and for the attention to detail evident throughout the project. They advised adjustments to the intersections of the lowest bridge landings and the recreational path along the river, recommending that the path be widened to thirteen feet as it passes the bridge, and that the proposed at-grade concrete landings at the north and south approaches be extended to more clearly define a zone of safety for pedestrians as the landings meet the path.

Please coordinate with the staff for the submission of the final project documents, incorporating the revisions recommended above.

Sincerely,

/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
