Letter

Dear Secretary Djou:

In its public meeting of 17 October conducted by videoconference, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed a program for wayfinding and interpretive signage to be installed in military cemeteries and memorial sites administered by the American Battle Monuments Commission. In its approval of the overall concept proposal, the Commission of Fine Arts delegated the review of the final designs for the signage at individual sites to the staff and provided the following comments.

Expressing support for the establishment of a unified wayfinding system for these properties, the Commission members identified several modifications to consider as the final designs are developed. These include possibly adjusting the background and icon colors of the signs for consistency and legibility; removing the horizontal bar proposed for the bottom of several sign types for a cleaner appearance at sloping or uneven ground; and adding walking radius information to the proposed inset site maps for visitors.

Please coordinate the delegated final reviews of the sign proposals for the individual properties with the staff which, as always, is available to assist you.

Sincerely,
/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
