Letter
Dear Mr. Marootian:
In its public meeting of 19 November conducted by videoconference, the Commission of Fine Arts approved, based on its prior review of the submission materials, the concept design for the Pennsylvania Avenue Northwest Streetscape Project, a plan that would change the appearance of Pennsylvania Avenue west of the White House from 17th to 21st Streets, NW. The Commission members expressed support for the proposal but cautioned that the elegant, linear formality of the avenue should not be compromised in the effort to accommodate many multi-modal transportation elements within the corridor, and that the street trees and streetlights should be aligned and spaced as regularly as possible.
The Commission looks forward to further review of this important streetscape project. Please coordinate the final submission with the staff which, as always, is available to assist you.
Sincerely,
/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
