Letter
Dear Ms. Baquial:
In its meeting of 19 June, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed the revised design for a new building to house the Construct Operations Facility (ConOps) on Bolling Air Force Base and made recommendations for modifications to the building’s elevations. While the Commission members found the current design to be improved from the previous submission, they felt that the project could still benefit from additional refinement.
The Commission members considered the design of the east facade to be more successful than that of the west facade; they recommended that the size and detailing of the blind windows on the east elevation be repeated on the west, that these features should not be extended below the proposed water table, and that they could be reconfigured—for example, as smaller paired elements.
The Commission delegated the final approval to staff and encouraged the applicant to consult with them as the project continues. As always, the staff is available to assist you with future submissions.
Sincerely,
/s/Thomas E. Luebke, AIA
