Letter
Dear Mr. Castellano:
In its public meeting of 16 February conducted by videoconference, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed a permit submission for a new single-family house to be located at 2055 Trumbull Terrace, NW (case number SL 23-021). Expressing regret that the proposal had not first been submitted for concept review to allow more opportunity to develop the design, the Commission approved the submission with the condition that the following comments be resolved with the staff.
The Commission members noted that the site, currently occupied by a modest single-family house proposed for demolition, is directly adjacent to a wooded area of Rock Creek Park, a National Park Service property; they commented that their primary concern for the new house and landscape is their visibility and character in relation to the park. They recommended that the exterior of the house use natural materials and colors to reduce its visual impact on the park, and they requested the development of a site and landscape design that is appropriate for this parkside location.
In order to complete the permit review of the project, please coordinate the development and documentation of the design in response to the Commission’s comments with the staff, which is available to assist you.
Sincerely,
/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
