No objection to the concept design to construct the 13th Street, SE, connector road and improve the roadway circulation and shelters for the bus station at the Congress Heights Metro station, per materials received 3 November 2022. Submission indicates that 13th Street, SE, would be connected to Alabama Avenue, SE, to provide access to the redeveloped areas of the campus, including a new crosswalk at the Metro station; and that the reconfigured bus circulation at the Metro station would provide bus-only routing for better service and intermodal transit connections. No objection to the concept design to partially demolish, relocate, and reconfigure Building 88 (Blackburn Laboratory) on a site to the west to accommodate the extension of Sycamore Street, SE, per supplemental materials received 10 November 2022. Submission indicates that moving the building to the original relocation site to the northeast, identified in the 2012 master plan, was deemed not feasible because of the challenging structural conditions of Building 88. No objection to the concept design for the rehabilitation of the pocket park at Reservation 85, per materials received 3 November 2022. Scope of work includes construction of a 5.5'-wide access ramp; in-kind repair of small sections of the existing planter/retaining walls; the addition of seating; and new plantings. No objection to final design for a new two-story addition at the southwest corner of the existing school building for a new child development center, and the construction of a new playground at the front of the existing school, per materials received 8 November 2022. Final design for the new addition largely conforms with the approved concept design; a new playground was added to the project scope to compensate for the loss of the existing playground.
