No objection to issuance of permit for replacement sign composed of 8 1/2 inches high lettering reading 'Meridian Health & Relaxation' painted cocoa (dark brown) color on a panel with a raised border both painted to match color of trim on the facade of building as shown in supplemental drawings dated 18 March 2013. Existing sign must be removed and new sign must be installed no later than 30 June 2013. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

Returned without Action. Permit application has been inactive for an extended time.

No objection to concept design for proposed addition of second floor as shown in supplemental drawings dated 21 February 2013, provided elevation facing the street is detailed as a lightweight greenhouse glazing system with minimal mullions and cornice. Recommend a reveal at the north end next to party wall. File new submission of working drawings, including details, dimensions and cut-sheets, with permit application for review by the Commission.

The Commission regrets that the windows in the historic building were replaced prior to review or permit. Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for existing insulated windows with simulated-divided-light muntins on the front and side facades where they are visible from the street. Existing windows, which are not compatible with the historic character of this residence, one in a row of four with similar window trim, must be removed no later than 30 June 2013 and replaced with custom made single-glazed, double-hung, wood windows to replicate detailing, profile and trim of original windows. Recommend use of either exterior or interior storm windows. Recommend installation of operable louvered wood shutters sized to cover the window when closed. File new submission of detailed drawings and cut-sheets for new windows and shutters, with permit application no later than the deadline of 11 April 2013, for review by the Commission.

No objection to concept design for proposed two-story rear addition with basement to replace enclosed porch as shown in Option 2 of supplemental drawings dated 27 February 2013 which indicate battens on the panels below the windows. Replacement of front windows was not approved and was deleted from the scope of work. Front windows must be repaired. File new submission of working drawings, including details and dimensions, with permit application for review by the Commission.

No objection to issuance of permit to center existing awning with modified graphics, remove of framed restaurant reviews and lights, patching, sanding, and painting all wholes, and installing new operable wood shutters to fit existing window openings per supplemental drawings dated 20 February 2013.

No objection to issuance of permit for red fabric awning with 7-inch-tall GNC letters as indicated in supplemental drawings dated 19 February 2013.

No objection to concept design for proposed two-story rear addition with basement to replace screened porch as shown in supplemental drawings dated 27 February 2013, with the use of board and batten on party wall and vertical bead board on panels below windows. Recommend window panes have vertical proportions. File new submission of working drawings, including details, dimensions, mechanical and electrical plans and cut-sheets for light fixtures, landscape plan for the rear yard, and material samples, with permit application for review by the Commission.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed replacement of window sashes with Kolbe & Kolbe all-wood single-hung 1/1 windows as shown in supplemental drawings dated 15 March 2013 which indicate wood jamb filler under upper sash, provided the mechanical equipment will be located where it will not be visible from public thoroughfare. Original mullion on first floor paired windows must be replicated to match the ones on upper floors. First floor windows and door will have glass transom. File new submission of detailed and dimensioned drawings, including cut-sheets, for new mechanical equipment with permit application for review by the Commission. The Commission regrets that the existing signs do not conform to previous recommendation under case OG 02-231. Signs must be brought into conformance no later than 30 June 2013. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to concept design for entrance surround, vestibule, window, and replacement of sills to match existing, provided height of back-lit sign is reduced to 18-20 inches. Recommend against beltcourse proposed for above first story and against painting the facade. File new submission of construction drawings, including architectural details, dimensions and cut-sheets, with permit application for review by the Commission.

No objection to issuance of permit for two proposed signs with lettering no taller than 12 inches high reading 'Cardinal Bank' with logo and one red woven fabric awning with lettering over entrance as shown in supplemental drawings dated 15 March 2013 which indicate four light fixtures for sign on Wisconsin Avenue, no light fixtures and no awning on north facade, and no graphics on privacy vinyl film applied to storefronts at rear of building. No objection to location of ATM within vestibule and dark charcoal security film applied to two windows on front facade, and one on north facade. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to concept design for proposed alterations to east window for areaway and brick addition at east to included new windows, door, and shed roof based on option A of supplemental drawings dated 21 February 2013, provided mullion patterns are re-studied to be consistent and compatible with main residence, and landing at top of stair is reduced to width of existing stair. File new submission of construction drawings, including architectural details, dimensions and cut-sheets, with permit application for review by the Commission.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed signs composed of back-lit channel letters reading 'DSW' (no taller than 18-inches on M Street and 12-inches on Potomac Street) and 'Washington Sports Club' no taller than 10-inches, and for two illuminated blade signs with 10-inches high letters reading 'Parking' above garage entrance on Wisconsin Avenue provided all existing WSC vinyl letters, banners and hardware, fabric awnings, and flag hardware have been removed from building per supplemental drawings dated __ March 2013. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

Returned without Action. Permit application for new plaques for 'Banana Republic' is a duplicate of previously approved project under case OG 13-081 and was withdrawn at the written request of applicant.

Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit. Submission materials are insufficient for review. File new submission of construction drawings, including architectural details, dimensions and cut-sheets for proposed replacement storefront for review by the Commission.

No objection to issuance of permit for existing awning with lettering on slope reading 'Dalton Pratt' provided length is shortened to align with edge of window openings. No objection to issuance of permit for light fixtures and window boxes. Recommend against issuance of permit for blade sign installed on second floor windows. Existing blade sign must be removed no later than 30 April 2013 and awning shortened no later than 30 June 2013. The Commission regrets that awning, sign and blade sign were installed prior to review.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed landscape work on side yard, including removal of swimming pool, new terraces, new garden wall and gate, removal of gas meter on sidewalk planter, and new concrete pavers on a stone dust and gravel base at parking pad off rear alley, as shown in supplemental drawings dated 14 March 2013. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

Returned without Action. Based on supplemental information dated 7 March 2013 and a site visit of 12 March 2013, the proposed balcony will not be visible from public thoroughfare. Refer to the historic Preservation Office. Note: Any additional information submitted for review or any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review that would make the balcony visible from public thoroughfare must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

Recommend against issuance of permit for proposed replacement of windows with 6/6 insulated windows. The Commission regrets that the front door was replaced with a six panel door which does not conform to approved design. The front door must be replaced with the approved four panel door no later than 30 June 2013. Recommend repair of the existing 6/6 single-glazed wood windows with the use of storm windows, or filing new submission of detailed drawings, including dimensions and cut-sheets for 2/2 all-wood replacement windows with permit application for review by the Commission.

Recommend against issuance of permit for sign scheme for 'Roosters' as proposed. No objection to concept design for back lit sign at rear, without second line of text, and for awnings to match detailing and placement of awnings approved for adjacent tenant. Back-lit sign panel on pedestrian portal was not approved. Recommend alternate design for a blade sign on Wisconsin Avenue. File new submission of detailed and dimensioned drawings, with awning fabric sample, with permit application for review by the Commission.

Recommend against concept design for proposed addition on roof of existing garage and proposed swimming pool in rear yard. Addition would appear as a new accessory structure and would compromise the character of the existing party wall of residence to the south in its relationship to the open space of the rear yard, which is a historic condition of this Federal-era property and the typical urban fabric in the historic district. The proposed location of the swimming pool would have a negative impact on existing trees and compromises the possibility of mature landscape, which is characteristic of the historic district.

No objection to issuance of permit to replace existing asphalt roofing with new gray slate roof with 1/4-inch vertical gaps, dormers with slate roofs and sides, structural reinforcement of existing rafters as required. Wood trim and eaves with half-round gutters to replicate historic detailing of similar residences in row.

The Commission regrets that graphics for 'DryBar' and privacy film were installed on show windows prior to review or permit. No objection to issuance of permit for existing vinyl graphics and privacy screen as shown in supplemental drawings dated 21 February 2013. Trademark on lettering on awnings was not approved and must be removed no later than 30 April 2013. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

Returned without Action. Completed work for underpinning and foundation repair is underground work. Disturbed ground surface must match original conditions prior to work using salvaged materials.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed enclosure of one bay of second floor porch for new elevator as shown in supplemental drawings dated 14 March 2013. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed demolition of front stairs for structural work on front facade and reconstruction with stairs as shown in supplemental drawings dated 19 March 2013 which indicate concrete or cast stone treads (with no nosing) to replicate thickness of treads and landing on original stairs. Provide samples of concrete treads for review by the Old Georgetown Board prior to final construction. Masonry opening on stoop will have grilles and no window to match original. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to concept design for new wood two-story porch. File new submission of detailed and dimensioned drawings, including roof drawings that reference the original roof slope, with permit application for review by the Commission.

No objection to concept design for proposed alterations for new door and perforated metal surround within arcade as per drawings dated 15 February 2013. File new submission of working drawings, including details, dimensions and material sample for the perforated metal, with permit application for review by the Commission.

No objection to concept design for a 10-foot deep one-story rear addition provided the addition is redesigned in wood. File new submission of construction drawings, including architectural details, dimensions and cut-sheets, for proposed addition with balcony for review by the Commission.

Recommend AGAINST basement addition under porch and lowering of side yard which is not consistent with character of historic residence and site. Recommend against wood gate which does not conform to Commission's policy to not block views from public space toward the interior of the block.

Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for brick and stone terraces set on impervious beds to east and north of residence, which is not consistent with Commission's policy on site alteration supporting pervious surfaces. Recommend submission of one permit set of drawings for all alterations to landscape proposed in concept. File new submission of detailed and dimensioned drawings, with permit application for review by the Commission.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations to storefront as shown in supplemental drawings dated 15 March 2013, except for blade sign, which was not approved and was deleted from the scope of work on this permit. Existing sign on slope of awning will be removed. Existing light fixtures will be removed, no new fixtures are proposed. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

The Commission regrets that vinyl applications to storefront and bay windows were installed prior to review or permit. No objection to issuance of permit for existing vinyl letters reading 'Boffi' and 'Maxalto' applied to storefront and bay windows as documented on supplemental drawings dated 25 February 2013. Recommend AGAINST new wall-mounted back-lit sign for 'Maxalto' above storefront (see previous recommendation under OG 13-006). Existing back-lit sign for 'Boffi' was previously approved. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed reconstruction of rear of building to match pre-collapse condition with new window well, and for alterations to storefront as shown in supplemental drawings dated 26 February 2013 which indicate ADA entrance, single light show windows, wood trim and sign panel, 2/2 all-wood insulated windows on second floor with true-divided-lite 1 11/16 inch wide muntin, and four panel doors with single lite transom. Use only half-screen on windows. Signage is not part of this permit application and must be submitted for review separately. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed replacement of stockade fence with a 6 foot high vertical board wood fence with a 1 foot high lattice as shown in drawings dated 18 February 2013. Fence must be painted or stained (solid). Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to the issuance of permit for proposed dormer on rear slope of roof as shown in supplemental drawings dated 22 February 2013, which indicate roof of dormer below ridge of existing roof and relocation of the rooftop mechanical equipment to rear yard. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

Returned without Action. Submission materials and a site visit on 20 February 2013 indicate the proposed replacement windows on the north elevation will not be visible from a public thoroughfare. Refer to D.C. Historic Preservation Review Board.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed stucco finish for west elevation of garage (previously approved as OG 12-205). Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

Returned without Action. Submission materials and a site visit in coordination with previous submission for roof top mechanical equipment indicate that proposed openings on the roof surface for connections to this equipment and alterations to roof structure to support previously approved roof deck will not be visible from public thoroughfare.
