Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia

Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia

The national military cemetery was established on the family estate of Confederate General Robert E. Lee during the Civil War; the historic Arlington House provides a visual focus for the cemetery, both from within the property and from the National Mall. The CFA’s involvement in the cemetery’s design intensified in the 1920s following the casualties of World War I.
