Jefferson Memorial

The Pantheon-inspired temple by architect John Russell Pope with sculptor Rudulph Evans was completed in 1943 and would be the last public building in an academic classical style built in Washington. Its design, derived from Classical antiquity, was hotly contested in the late 1930s when Modernism was emerging as the appropriate expression for civic architecture. The CFA most recently reviewed perimeter security measures for the memorial in September 2013.
