John Russell Pope’s 1933 design for the American Pharmaceutical Association headquarters—a taut box articulated by wafer-thin planes—deferred to the sculptural massiveness of the Lincoln Memorial. The 2009 Hartman-Cox addition, a six-story office building behind it, is stylistically derived from the much smaller Beaux-Arts building. The CFA most recently reviewed the project in February 2005.
