Titanic Memorial

The CFA approved the design of the Titanic Memorial by sculptor Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney and architect Henry Bacon in 1919. The memorial was erected in 1931 along the Rock Creek and Potomac Parkway near the southern end of New Hampshire Avenue and was moved to its current site in southwest Washington in 1968; it is a likely inspiration for a dramatic scene in the 1997 movie, Titanic.
