Metro canopy program

To improve operations and maintenance of the Metrorail station entrances, a competition-winning program of glass canopies developed by Lourie & Chenoweth/Houghton was approved in 2003 by the CFA. The design of radially arranged glass panels within a curving frame, intended to refer to the monumental coffered ceilings of the underground stations, is adaptable to individual station entrances such as this one at Virginia Square/George Mason University in Arlington County. The CFA most recently reviewed additional canopy locations in April 2014.
