Beginning in 2009, the U.S. Mint began the America the Beautiful Quarters program, with each reverse presenting a national park or preserve in one of the fifty states. The challenge of depicting a landscape on such a small surface is most successfully resolved by using iconic subjects representing the parks: for Hot Springs, Arkansas (2010), an architectural feature; for the Chaco Culture National Park in New Mexico (2012), recognizable archeological structures; an erupting volcano for Hawai’i (2012); and wildlife of the park for the Florida Everglades (2014). The CFA most recently reviewed coins in this series in June 2016.
