Dear Mr. Lott:

In its public meeting of 15 July conducted by videoconference, the Commission of Fine Arts approved, based on its prior review of the submission materials, the final streetscape design for Pennsylvania Avenue from 17th to 21st Streets, NW. This prominent project includes the reconstruction of the street right-of-way, with the installation of separated bicycle lanes, pedestrian safety improvements, and bioretention areas, and the replacement of all paving, landscaping, and trees. The Commission recommended that additional attention be given to the design of the pedestrian crossings to avoid conflicts with bollards, poles, and other features in order to make these areas as open, barrier-free, and accessible as possible.

Please coordinate any additional revisions with the staff which, as always, is available to assist you.

Sincerely,

/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
