Letter
Dear Ms. Condon:
In its meeting of 15 September, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed the final design submission for improvements to the Edward Moore Kennedy gravesite at Arlington National Cemetery.
The Commission members expressed appreciation for the project team's response to their previous recommendation to modify the walkway in order to create a place of contemplation. While the revised plan achieves this goal, they commented that the resulting solution to enlarge the path creates an awkward geometric relationship at its connection to the adjacent Robert F. Kennedy gravesite. They recommended revising the shape of the path to allow a more graceful transition between the gravesite areas and using the landscape treatment to reinforce the design character of the site.
The Commission approved the revised design subject to these recommendations and delegated the final approval of the details to the staff which, as always, is available to assist you.
Sincerely,
