Letter

Dear Mr. Ryder:

In its public meeting of 18 June conducted by videoconference, with the advice of its subcommittee on submissions from the United States Mint, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed alternative designs for a Congressional Gold Medal honoring Larry Doby and provided the following recommendations.

The Commission recommended obverse #1A and reverse #3, consistent with the preferences of Mr. Doby’s son, commenting that the composition of obverse #1A successfully brings together the portrait of Mr. Doby, the setting of a historic baseball stadium, and the medal’s inscriptions, and recommending that the phrase “Act of Congress 2018” be removed from the reverse to eliminate duplication with the selected obverse.

As always, the staff is available to assist you with future submissions.

Sincerely,

/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
