Letter
Dear Mr. Ryder:
In its public meeting of 18 June conducted by videoconference, with the advice of its subcommittee on submissions from the United States Mint, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed alternative designs for the 2021 American Eagle coins and provided the following recommendations.
For the four denominations and sizes of gold coins, with the continuing obverse based on a historic design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, the Commission recommended reverse #2 as a strong depiction of an eagle in flight with an oak branch. For the silver coin, with the continuing obverse based on a historic design by Adolph A. Weinman, the Commission recommended reverse #33, consistent with the heraldic presentation of an eagle on the reverse of the earlier silver coins in this series.
As always, the staff is available to assist you with future submissions.
Sincerely,
/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
