Letter

Dear Mr. Anderson:

In its public meeting of 18 March conducted by videoconference, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed and approved a concept design for a replacement building for the Fort Dupont Ice Skating Arena, located at 3779 Ely Place, SE. The Commission members expressed strong support for the proposal to reconstruct the city’s major ice-skating facility; they commented that the revised scope of work and the redesign effort have resulted in a beautiful, well-composed proposal for a building that is appropriate to its function. As the project is further developed, the Commission members recommended that the palette of hardscape materials in the landscape relate to the architecture and materials proposed for the building.

The Commission looks forward to the review of the final submission for this popular recreational sports facility. Please coordinate with the staff which, as always, is available to assist you.

Sincerely,

/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
