View of the Great Cascade descending the central spine of Meridian Hill (Malcolm X) Park to the Great Terrace at the south, in the 1940s. In mid-20th century Washington, Meridian Hill Park was a popular gathering place for concerts and other cultural activities. The Noyes Armillary Sphere by Carl Paul Jennewein was installed at the bottom of the Great Cascade in 1931.
