No objection to general concept design for proposed enclosure of roof deck at second floor level as shown in supplemental drawings dated 17 February 2011 provided that the false windows are replaced with closed shutters. No objection to concept of proposed replacement 6/1 wood windows as shown in supplemental drawings dated 23 February 2011 which indicate a wood jamb liner concealer for the single hung installation in the front facade. File new submission of working drawings, including details and dimensions, with permit application for review by the Commission.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed replacement of 2nd floor windows with 1/1 insulated wood windows as shown in supplemental drawings dated 10 February 2011 which indicate single-hung installation with wood covers to block track for upper sash. No vinyl jamb liner will be visible. Notify CFA Staff of installation of windows 9 and 10 for inspection prior to installation of other windows. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

Returned without Action. Although there is no objection to a general concept for a 1-story rear addition as an enclosed wood porch (a two-story rear addition to the center house on a row of three is not appropriate and was not approved), the review of the concept application was not completed and the case was superseded by the permit application submitted under case OG 11-115.

No objection to general concept design for proposed 1-story rear addition with basement as shown in Option A of supplemental drawings dated 22 February 2011 which indicate a painted brick base and frame construction shuttered porch top PROVIDED bay addition is pulled back from the corner of the main house as far back as it is from the corner of the addition. File new submission of working drawings, including details and dimensions, with permit application for review by the Commission. A two-story rear addition is not appropriate to this historic building and was deleted from this concept design.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed installation of HVAC equipment to replace failed Geo-thermal system as shown in supplemental drawings dated 9 March 2011 which indicate three units on side yard rather than the four previously proposed. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to revised concept design for new cast iron stoop, widened garage door opening, masonry rooftop addition and two-story rear addition as shown in supplemental drawings dated 11 March 2011. File new submission of working drawings, including details and dimensions, with permit application for review by the Commission.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed replacement of fence visible from the alley with a vertical board fence, and for alterations to the rear yard, including deck, patio and light fixtures, which will not be visible from public thoroughfare. Recommend that light fixtures be shielded so that the light shines down only and not impact adjoining neighbors. The fence will be painted white. Note: The Capitol Historic Trust holds a preservation easement on this property. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

Returned without Action. Submitted materials and previous submission under case OG 06-271 indicate that retaining wall and the slope stabilization work in coordination with the West Perimeter Road project will not be visible from public thoroughfare. Note that the work has been coordinated with the National Park Service due to the proximity to Glover-Archbold Parkway. Refer to the Historic Preservation Review Board.

Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for proposed light fixtures illuminating the facade of this historic building and for proposed banner and sign for City Sports which are not appropriate to this historic building and the historic district.

Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for proposed blade sign on 31st St which is inappropriate to the historic building as the project includes numerous signs throughout the facades. No objection to the issuance of permit for the shiny brass finish on letters for signs, for the proposed awnings on north facade over pedestrian walkway, for relocation of light fixtures on the 31st St building and for the removal of the light fixtures on M St and at the corner. Sign above 31st St shop window must be installed as previously approved (see case OG 10-088) sized to fit within window opening. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed sign scheme, including awnings, painted 'All Saints Spitalfields' sign with 8"-tall lettering for western building and 12"-tall lettering immediately below cornice of eastern building as shown in supplemental drawings dated 16 March 2011. All interior signs must be no less than 18 inches behind the storefront glass. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

Recommend AGAINST concept design for proposed reorientation of front entry stairs and reconstruction with slate treads, or for door surround as proposed. Recommend that reconstructed stairs in either wood or brick match existing orientation sideways in front of house, that door surround is simplified with a 7 inch casing and no dentils, and that electrical meter is relocated to the interior of the building. File new submission of revised design, including details and dimensions, for review by the Commission.

Returned without Action. Permit application for replacement windows on front facade was withdrawn at the written request of applicant via email dated 28 February 2011.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed iron gates and railing at balcony and within opening for French doors as shown in supplemental drawings dated 22 February 2011 PROVIDED vehicular gates are no taller than existing brick pier and wall at corner of parking pad. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed painted sign on storefront fascia composed of letters no taller than 12 inches high reading 'LouLou' PROVIDED existing exposed electric conduit, which is not appropriate to the historic district, is removed prior to the installation of the sign. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed 2' x 8' Sunbrella fabric banner with 9 1/2-inch-high lettering reading 'Babette' and for sign on shop window as shown in supplemental drawings dated 18 February 2011. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to concept design for proposed repair, replacement-in-kind and replacement windows to match original 1/1 configuration of historic building. File new submission of working drawings, including details and dimensions, with permit application for review by the Commission.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed sign scheme for 'Loft' including back-lit sign composed of 12-inch-high letters mounted to storefront cornice and for 4-inch-high vinyl applied to base of shop windows as shown in supplemental drawings dated 14 March 2011. Oversized lettering, sign on transoms and on decorative brick panels on facade were not approved and were deleted from this permit application. No objection to issuance of permit for proposed rooftop mechanical equipment at rear where it will not be visible from public thoroughfare. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

Install mock-up of illuminated panels at spandrels within arches for review by the Old Georgetown Board.
