The Commission regrets that the replacement vinyl windows on the second floor, which are not appropriate to the historic district, were installed prior to review or permit. No objection to issuance of permit for proposed replacement windows with all-wood insulated windows with simulated-divided-lites 5/8- inch muntins to match profile of original 1st floor window as shown in supplemental drawings dated 19 August 2011. Recommend retention of original brick mould. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit. Installation of approved replacement windows must be completed no later than 31 March 2012.

Returned without Action. Concept submission for rear addition and alterations was superseded by new - Concept submission under case OG 11-270.

No objection to the general concept design for a sign scheme for Dumbarton House that includes a projecting sign on brick pier at main entrance stairs and two signs mounted to the fence at the corner entrance to the garden as shown in Option 1B, 2A and 4 of the supplemental drawings dated 22 August 2011. File new submission of graphics for the sign panels with permit application for review by the Commission prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to general concept design for new addition of brick third floor to existing building, rear clad canted addition with bays, casement windows, green screen at entrance, penthouse with terrace, and 6'-high brick perimeter wall based on supplemental drawings dated 19 August 2011. Recommend brick beltcourse or similar at third floor, reduced height of penthouse wings, and further study of fence/wall without graduated openings. File new concept application for review by Commission when ready.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed single projecting sign for O Salon and businesses at rear as shown in supplemental drawings dated 18 August 2011. Pole-mounted sign was deleted from this permit application. No other sign or window decal was reviewed or approved. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to concept application for proposed demolition of historic rear ell and altered window openings, provided a berm is restored in front of Federal-era house and straight entrance stair is also reintroduced; new berm to approximate massing of original berm. File new submission of working drawings, including details and dimensions, with permit application for review by the Commission.

No objection to the issuance of permit for proposed demolition of leaning chimney and reconstruction to match existing using salvaged brick and new brick to match original. No objection to issuance of permit for proposed replacement of rear fence with a 7-ft high vertical board fence and gate with a flat top as shown in supplemental drawings dated 22 August 2011 PROVIDED finished side faces the alley and supports for the fence and gate are not visible from public thoroughfare. Fence must be painted or stained. Recommend removal of lattice screen on deck which is not appropriate to the character of the historic district. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed replacement of garage door at rear with a painted wood carriage house overhead garage door. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

The Commission regrets that the lattice fence was installed prior to review or permit. Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for existing lattice fence atop a 7-ft high brick wall along the public sidewalk which is not appropriate to this building or the historic district. Recommend use of landscaping behind wall for desired screening. Existing lattice must be removed no later than 31 October 2011.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed covered walkway on roof of one-story rear wing and metal stairs to provide for required fire exit. Work will have limited visibility from the street. Recommend building be painted to remove mural on side wall as previously recommended (see OG 09-084). Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed replacement of rear fence and gate with 7-ft high vertical board fence and gate including 1-ft lattice at top, to match existing fence, as shown in supplemental drawings dated 18 August 2011. No objection to issuance of permit for proposed sign scheme for Streets of Georgetown including a sign panel above entrance and applied lettering and detailing on glass of shop windows. Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for proposed projecting sign and light fixtures which were not approved and were crossed out off the drawings. Existing bracket for flagpole, banner and light fixtures mounted to cornice of storefront must be removed prior to installation of approved signs. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed sign scheme for Jack Wills including retractable awning and pin-mounted sign on panel above shop window as shown in supplemental drawings dated 9 September 2011 which indicate lettering on shed of awning is no more than 12 inches high. Applicant agreed to remove the light fixtures mounted to the storefront cornice and the spot lights on the facade as part of previous review under OG 11-193. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed addition of rear stair, alterations to rear and new mechanical equipment where it will not be visible from public thoroughfare, as shown in supplemental drawings dated 13 September 2011. No objection to concept design for replacement of windows with single glazed, true-divide-lights replicas. File new submission of window details with permit application for replacement windows for review by the Commission. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit. Note: The Foundation for the Preservation of Historic Georgetown holds a preservation easement on this property.

No objection to issuance of permit for painted 12"-high letters reading 'All Saints Spitalfields' above first floor at 3233 M Street, provided no shadow effect is rendered behind lettering. Recommend against all painted signage on party walls. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed sign scheme for Boffi composed of lettering no taller than 12 inches high applied to storefront glazing and logo on bay windows as shown in supplemental drawings dated 18 August 2011 PROVIDED listing of names, which was not approved, is removed as per previous recommendation under case OG 11-181. Back-lit sign above entrance door was previously approved. New sign will replace oversized lettering. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations to roof terraces for waterproofing work associated with installation of new pavers, and reconstruction of chimneys using salvaged brick or new brick to match existing, as shown in supplemental drawings dated 4 October 2011 which indicate permanent fixed planters at the lower terrace at unit 111 and 113. Existing fixed planters on terrace of unit 217 will remain. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for repointing and replacement of brownstone lintels, sills, and deteriorated portions of front steps and threshold with stone to match exact dimensions and profiles of existing. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed 2-story rear addition as shown in supplemental drawings dated 13 September 2011. No objection to issuance of permit for the razing and reconstruction of the garage structure and the retaining wall. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed one-story rear addition over portion of the roof deck at the fourth floor level and the relocation of existing window/door system. Working drawings conform to approved concept design (see OG 11-206). Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for proposed awning and signs. File new submission of detailed and dimensioned drawings for a sign scheme for the whole building with permit application for review by the Commission. Existing signs on shop windows were installed prior to review or permit, were not approved, and must be removed no later than 31 October 2011.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed sign scheme for Charles Luck Stone composed of 8'-6" x 2'-1" projecting canvas banner on Cady's Alley and for sign panel on 34th St. as shown in supplemental drawings dated 18 August 2011. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to concept design for replacement fence, deck and alterations to rear. Recommend AGAINST replacement of front windows. Recommend further study for alterations to front door and surround to bring it back to original condition as per photo documentation, and for 1/1 or 2/1 replacement windows at rear. File new submission of working drawings, including details and dimensions, with permit application for approved work for review by the Commission.

No objection to issuance of permit for unblocking existing historic masonry openings on south elevation for new windows with stone sills per supplemental drawings dated 1 September 2011. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed sign scheme for Jack Spade including 6 1/2- inch-high pin-mounted letters PROVIDED they are mounted through the mortar joints only, and 3 1/2-inch-high letters applied to glass on shop window. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for: new front door, transom, and cast iron stoop; 1/1 wood replacement sashes on the front; one new window opening with relocated window unit at east wall; new rear addition; new wood gates and underground garage; and stone terrace with pool. Alterations and addition as shown in drawings dated 25 August 2011. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

Recommend AGAINST concept design for proposed roof deck with privacy fence and pergola over rear ell, and for alterations to rear including addition of plexiglass cornice, all of which is not appropriate to this historic building and the historic district.

Returned without Action. Site visit of 17 August 2011 indicate that proposed replacement of the windows at rear ONLY will not be visible from public thoroughfare. Refer to the Historic Preservation Review Board. Applicant deleted the replacement of windows on front facade from this permit application. Recommend front windows be repaired.
